The DogzUp® ramps were developed by a retired engineer who was inspired by his then Newfoundland dog Caesar to build a better dog ramp.

In the last twenty years, advances in veterinary medicine and animal nutrition have meant dogs are living longer. But they are nonetheless still developing age-related conditions such as arthritis, dysplasia, ruptured CCLs and other mobility-affecting health conditions. Dogs are also having complex orthopaedic surgeries requiring extensive rehabilitation periods.

Dog keepers often want or need to transport their animals in their own vehicles. This was not an issue when passenger cars (i.e., sedans and coupes) predominated the market for personal vehicles. However, over the last decade, consumer preferences for SUVs has eclipsed the market for passenger vehicles; most North American automakers are abandoning the passenger car

market, meaning SUVs represent a large proportion of personal vehicles on the road today. An advantage of using an SUV to transport family pets is that the can be configured with the rear seatbacks lowered to increase the volume of the cargo area,.

Getting large, old, arthritic, disabled and/or mobility-impaired dogs into an SUV vehicle, where the cargo deck will often be 650mm or more above the ground/road surface, can be challenging for the animal’s keeper and painful to the dog. Some breeds, such as Newfoundland dogs, St. Bernards, Mastiffs and other large and giant breeds, are just big, weighing 60 kg or more, making lifting the animal into the vehicle very difficult or impossible for most people. Even when the animal is healthy, large dogs cannot just “jump in” when the cargo deck is 650mm or more above the ground. Our ramps provide a means of giving an animal the ability to enter or exit the cargo area of an SUV with a high cargo deck, on their own, or, with minimal assistance.
